Senate No. 25 The Committee on Railways and Canals reported An Act to unite the West Stockbridge Rail-road Corporation and the Hudson & Berkshire Rail-road Company, 1840. The two companies were made one corporation, chartered in New York. At least one director had to be a resident of Massachusetts. There were to be two sets of books, one according to the usage of each state. Massachusetts tracks were subject to Massachusetts laws. New York had to pass a similar act and the shareholders of each element had to approve the merger. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
