Senate No. 5 Report concerning small pox. On January 3, 1840, a committee was formed to consider reinstating some of the small pox laws. There was
a list of the laws imposed and repealed and data from epidemics. The practice of isolating people in a hospital on an island was discussed. Regular
vaccination began in 1800 and made a big difference in the number of cases. There was a history of inoculation in Boston; the committee tried to
emphasize that people do not die from the vaccination itself. There was a long discussion about any need for re-vaccination. An Act concerning small pox,
1840. An act passed in 1838 re sections 43 and 44 of the 21st chapter of the Revised Statutes was repealed. Households and doctors were again
