SEE ALSO 52800 House No. 47 The Joint Standing Committee on Claims submitted a report: Petition for reimbursement of the money paid by Deerfield
to support Lovina Witherill at the Lunatic Hospital, presented in 1835. The question was whether she was a state pauper or a town pauper. The
Attorney General submitted a long report and another committee studied the question, but nothing happened. The Joint Committee wanted to settle the
question, because well over $1,000 had been paid toward her support. The family had lived in Deerfield on a farm. The husband died and left the farm and
goods to his family. Two years after his death, the widow was considered insane, but she had no guardian and no entity had applied for the proceeds of
the property to put toward her support. The current committee thought Deerfield should arrange for that and gave the town leave to withdraw its
