Special Joint Comm. To Investigate Banks. Report on violations of banking laws, 1836

House No. 45 A Special Joint Committee to Investigate Banks issued a report: The Committee was of the opinion that banks were making gross
violations of the law, even though the statutes were clearly written. The violations against the usury law were especially egregious; the banks used direct
and indirect means to evade the 6% limit quite purposefully. The Legislature should proceed against the four named banks by virtue of Chapter 96,
section 17 of the Revised Statutes. This should put other banks on notice to come back into compliance. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title
