House No. 39 On March 1, 1839, a special committee, in response to a petition, reported a bill: An Act respecting the powers of assessors, 1836.
It was the duty of each bank and corporation to furnish the local assessor each May with a list of shareholders and the number of shares held by each,
with a fine for failure to comply. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
Title:   The special committee, to whom was referred the petition of Elihu Daggett and others, praying, that cashiers of banks, presidents of insurance companies, and officers of other corporations, in which stock is liable to be taxed, may be required to publish annually, a list of stockholders in such corporations, have had the subject under consideration, and report the accompanying bill.
