House. Comm. on Public Lands. Resolves concerning the North Eastern Territory of the U.S., 1836
House No. 37 On February 26, 1836, the Committee on Public Lands, in response to an order of February 19, 1836, submitted Resolves. Resolves
concerning the north eastern territory of the United States, claimed by Great Britain [first time this name appears], 1836. A large tract of land belonging
to Maine and Massachusetts had been controlled by Great Britain for many years. This was a gross abuse. The Legislature therefore asked the
Executive of the United States to settle the controversy. If there was to be a long delay, the states somehow wanted to get agency in the area. (Digitized

Title:   Ordered, that the Committee on Public Lands be directed to enquire, what measures, if any, this government ought to take to express to the executive of the general government, its deep solicitude and strong desire, that its rights and interests involved in the pending negociation with the government of Great Britain, relating to the north eastern boundary of the state of Maine, may be speedily adjusted...
