Senate No. 79 On February 1, 1836, the Joint Committee on Banks and Banking was directed to consider the need for a law to control agents from
banks not incorporated in the Commonwealth; on march 31, 1836, the Committee reported a bill: An Act in relation to foreign bank agencies, 1836. No agent
for a bank not incorporated in the Commonwealth or the United States could do business in Massachusetts and would be fined for trying. (Digitized

Title:   Ordered, that the Joint Committee on Banks and Banking, be directed to inquire if any law be necessary, in relation to agents of banking institutions not incorporated in this commonwealth.
