Joint Comm. on Railways and Canals. Act to establish the Mount Hope Rail-road Corporation, 1836
|
|
Senate No. 78 The Joint Committee on Railways and Canals reported a bill: An Act to establish the Mt. Hope Rail-road Corporation, 1836. Three men and their associates were incorporated as above, subject to Chapters 39 and 44 of the Revised Statutes, to locate and construct a railroad from Taunton to Somerset on the described route. The corporation's capital stock could not exceed $150,000 with shares of $100, had to be organized by January 1, 1837 and have completed work by September 1, 1838. The Legislature could adjust the tolls after four years. At its expense, this railroad could intersect with the Taunton Branch Railroad. With certain conditions, the Boston & Taunton Railroad could buy this company within five years after it opened for traffic.
