Description and Holding Information
Joint Comm. on Railways and Canals. Act to establish the Charlestown Branch Rail-road Company, 1836
SEE ALSO 52697 Senate No. 70 Charlestown Branch Rail Road Company. The Joint Committee on Railways and Canals reported a bill to replace a
similar bill passed in 1835: An Act to establish the Charlestown Branch Railroad, 1836. Three men and their associates were incorporated as above, subject
to Chapters 39 and 44 of the Revised Statutes, to construct a railroad on the route shown from one wharf in Charlestown to another, There were
instructions about piers and bridges and the Middlesex Canal. The capital stock could be 2,000-5,000 shares. The corporation had to organize by January 1,
1837 and complete the project by December 31, 1838 or this act was void. Other railroads could tie into this one and the corporation was to work
with other enterprises to keep access available. This railroad could connect to the Boston & Lowell Railroad. The State could sell certain lands to the
