Senate. Comm. on the Judiciary. Amendments to an Act to regulate assignment of insolvent debtors' property, 1836
Senate No. 63 On March 19, 1836, the Committee on the Judiciary presented three modifications to a bill it said should pass. It included the text
of the original bill without these changes. An Act to regulate the assignment and distribution of the property of insolvent debtors, 1836. The courts
generally managed the distribution of a debtor's assets, although he could do it himself if he did it without preference to particular creditors.
The debtor was not to hide assets. All creditors had to respond to the notice of assignment so as to be eligible for any payment. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
