Description and Holding Information
Joint Comm. on Prisons. Act in addition to the 144th Chap. Of the Revised Statutes, 1836
SEE ALSO 52861 Senate No. 59 New draft of the bill about the State Prison. An Act in addition to the one hundred forty fourth chapter of the
Revised Statutes "of the State Prison and the government and discipline thereof," 1836. Beginning in April, the Warden could allow each turnkey and
watchman $50/annum over and above their regular salary. Fuel would be provided for officers living in the prison. Resolve authorizing the purchase of a
granite quarry for the use of the State Prison and for other purposes, 1836. The Governor could purchase a granite quarry for no more than $12,000.
Resolve: The Warden could extend the wharf of the prison, spending no more than $3,000. (The railroad part of the original bill was dropped.)
