Senate No. 57 Report of the Committee to whom was referred the memorial of the Anti-Slavery Society. The memorialists said they had been partially
heard by the Committee, but had been too frequently interrupted to be able to get their points across. They had to respectfully protest laws meant
to suppress abolitionist societies or censuring their speech, which was a gross invasion of rights. Sometime after March 11, 1836, the Committee
submitted a report. The Committee had received a request from the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society to speak to them. The Committee was reluctant,
because no one would represent the views of the southern states, but there were two meetings. The gentlemen were offended by the vehement language and
"indecorous and improper" manners of the abolitionists. However, the Committee did not report what the Anti-Slavery Society had to say. The
