Description and Holding Information
Joint Comm. on Prisons. Act in addition to an act regulating prisons, 1836
SEE ALSO 52869 Senate No. 52 On March 8, 1836, the Joint Committee on prisons reported a bill: An Act in addition to an act providing for the
government and regulation of the State Prison, 1836. The Governor had the authority to purchase a granite quarry for the use of the prison, paying up
to $12,000. The Governor could sell land adjoining the prison to the Charlestown Branch Railroad Corporation and arrange to build a railroad. The
Warden could extend the wharf for the prison, spending up to $3,000. The warden could pay the turnkeys and watchmen $50 in addition to their salary and
could provide fuel for all who resided within the prison walls. The second version of this bill did not differ materially from the first one.
