|
|
Senate No. 51 On March 7, 1836, the Committee on Mercantile Affairs and Insurance reported a bill: An Act to incorporate the Charlestown Wharf Company in Charlestown, 1836. Five men and their associates were incorporated as above, capable to hold a specifically defined area to build docks and wharves, receive and ship cargoes, erect buildings and lay out streets, but the company could not obstruct the channel or any neighboring wharfage. It could hold real estate to $400,000 and could have up to 4,000 shares. It had to give notice of corporate meetings and follow the laws in Chapter 44 of the Revised Statutes.
