Joint Comm. on Railways and Canals. Act to establish the Nashua and Lowell Railroad Corporation, 1836
Senate No. 50 On March 5, 1836, the Committee on Railways and Canals reported a bill: An Act to establish the Nashua & Lowell Railroad Corporation,
1836. Three men were incorporated as above according to the usual statutes to locate and construct a railroad from Lowell to Nashua, NH, following
the detailed route in the act. The corporation was allowed capital stock of $300,000, with shares at $100 each, with the money raised by January 1837
and the road built by September 1838. It had to make a careful junction with the Boston & Lowell railroad and could not obstruct any canals. The
Legislature could adjust tolls after a certain period if the income was more than 10%. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the
Massachusetts State Library).
Title:   The Joint Committee on Railways and Canals, to whom was referred the petition of Jesse Bowers and others, for a rail-road from Nashua to Lowell, have had the same under consideration, and ask leave to report a bill.
