Joint Select Comm. on Apportionment of Senatorial Districts. Resolve providing amendment to the Constitution, 1836
|

Senate No. 42 On January 21, 1836, thirteen men formed a joint committee to consider a constitutional amendment. On March 1, 1836, the amendment
was presented: Article of Amendment. The number of Councillors and Senators would be based on the ratable polls in each district. Resolve, providing
for an amendment of the constitution, 1836. With the agreement of a majority of the senators and two-thirds of the representatives that it was
proper to alter the Constitution, the vote would be entered into the journals of each house and the issue referred to the next General Court. If it agreed
to the amendment, the general population would vote on its ratification. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the
