House. Comm. on Common Schools Taxes. Statistical table on common schools, 1835
House, (Second session,) No. 8 A statistical table relating to common schools of Massachusetts. On September 21, 1835, three men were ordered to
create the tables. On September 26, 1835, they presented their report. The categories included the name of each town and district, the valuation of
each, the population of each per the 1830 Census, the money raised by each for its schools, several ways of counting the children, and several ways of
potentially distributing the $16,000 available from the School Fund. The Committee reported that the data from the school districts was either
incomplete or lacking altogether, so the thirteen page attempt at the tables could not be relied upon. Even with poor data, it was easy to see that $16,000
was not going to provide much help to the many districts. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State
Library).
