House. Act to establish the Taunton Branch Rail-road Corporation, 1835

House No. 67 An Act to establish the Taunton Branch Railroad Corporation, 1835. Four men were incorporated as above with the usual rights,
responsibilities, and organization of a corporation. The group was to site and build a rail line from Taunton to Mansfield, there connecting with the Boston
to Providence Railroad. There were preliminary location notes, but the railroad could also negotiate with local authorities about the route. The
funds had to be gathered by January 1, 1836 and the road in operation in March 1837. There were the usual cautions about obstructing existing rights of
way. The directors were to negotiate with the Boston to Providence railroad about merging with the existing track. 1500 shares at $100 each would raise
the money. Rates of carriage would be established by the directors, but if, after ten years, the dividends to shareholders exceeded 10% annually,
the Legislature would adjust the rates. This railroad could negotiate with the Boston to Providence line to have them build the tracks, or even take
over the new line. This Act had passed the Senate on March 26, 1835. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts
