House. Comm. on Education. Report on Duke's County Academy petition, 1835
|

House No. 58 On March 16, 1835, the Committee on Education submitted a report: Duke's County Academy had been incorporated for two years, and had
built a building, but don't have enough money to open the school. In 1797, if a county could raise $3,000 to support a school, it could receive half
of a township in the public lands to sell for additional money. Duke's County tried at the time, but could not raise $3,000, but it would like to have
the grant now. The Committee decided other counties had received their grant later, and no private interest would be harmed by such a grant, so why
not? Resolve in aid of Duke's County, 1835. If Duke's County could raise $3,000, including the value of its new building, then it would receive a
