House No. 49 On March 4, 1835, Mr. Rantoul submitted an order: The president of each insurance company had thirty days to submit a
state-of-the-company report, including numbers and values of property insured, policies written in 1834, plus lots of financial data, including maritime business.

Title:   Ordered, that the president and directors of the Boston insurance companies, and all other insurance companies in the commonwealth respectively, within the period of thirty days from the date of this order, transmit to this legislature a statement of the affairs of said several companies, and submit themselves to an examination concerning the same; in conformity to the provisions of the 6th section of the "Act to define the powers, duties and restrictions of insurance companies" ...
