House no. 45 On January 15, 1835, another committee was formed to try to reduce the size of the House. Report: Three methods 1) create districts,
with pros and cons 2) reduce the number of ratable polls, with pros and cons 3) Towns, not the inhabitants of towns, would be represented, pros and
cons. The state would not need to call a Constitutional Convention, but would just have an amendment vote. The Committee recommended adopting the
third option and had the Attorney General draw up text for an amendment. There were eight pages of tables showing how the amendment would affect
representation. Resolved: The majority of the Senate and two thirds of the House would vote for the amendment, it would be entered in the journals, and
the amendment would go to the next General Court. If they passed the amendment, it would go to the people for ratification, to take effect at the next
election after the vote. Every ten years, the Legislature would create a chart of Representatives to be elected. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of
