House. Comm. on Education. Report on Boston Society of Natural History, 1835
House No. 44 On March 3, 1835, the Committee on Education reported on a petition. Report: The Boston Society of Natural History was formed in 1830
and incorporated in 1831. It studied Massachusetts resources and Massachusetts natural history, following the example of similar societies in
Britain. The group had a museum in Boston. The Committee felt the Legislature needed to encourage the study of science so Massachusetts did not fall
behind other states. Resolve: in favor of the Boston Society of Natural History, a payment of $300/year for five years. (Digitized from a microfilm copy
of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
Title:   The Committee on Education to whom was referred the petition of John Ware and others, members of the Boston Society of Natural History, ask leave to report.
