House No. 42 The Committee on Banks and Banking responded to seventeen petitions for new or upgraded banks. The petitioners were told to withdraw their petitions. The Committee felt there were enough banks and circulating capital. It doubted that most banks could withstand a run on deposits. The Committee thought it would be useful to know what proportion of bank bills in circulation were under $5.
