House. Comm. on Education. Report on the American Institution of Instruction, 1835
|
|
House No. 40 On February 28, 1835, the Committee on Education reported on several petitions received on behalf of the American Institute of Instruction. The Institute was founded in 1830 and incorporated in 1831 to improve teaching in the common schools and to help teaching be a profession. So far, the Institute had offered several lectures to their members and the public. There followed many pages of high flown rhetoric about teaching and teachers, and then a Resolve: There would be an appropriation for the American Institute of Instruction of $300/year for the next five years. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
