House No. 31 In February 1835, the Committee on Agriculture reported a bill: An Act to encourage by bounty the destruction of wild cats, bears, and foxes, 1835. Any person who killed one or more of these animals could take the carcass to the local selectmen. If the selectmen believed the hunter's story, he would receive $5 for each bear or wildcat and $1 for each fox. The bounties would be reimbursed by the Commonwealth during January of each year.
