House. Special Comm. on a Fire Department in Worcester. Act to establish a fire department in the town of Worcester, 1835
House No. 11 A three man special committee reported a bill: An Act to establish a fire department in the Town of Worcester, 1835. The Town was
authorized to appoint up to twelve engineers, who would hold office for a year or longer. The men were to recruit additional men to staff the fire
apparatus--numbers and types were laid out. The engineers could make regulations about the use of fire and things like stoves. Any fines collected went
to the fire company to improve equipment. The bill had to be voted on by Worcester residents before it could take effect. (Digitized from a microfilm
