Senate. Comm. on Railways and Canals. Act in addition to act defining rights of railroad corporations, 1835 March 17
SEE ALSO 52690 Senate No. 55 On March 17, 1835, the Committee on Railways and Canals reported a new draft of a bill: An Act in addition to an act
for defining the rights and duties of Rail-road corporations in certain cases, 1835. Security requirements in section 3 would be expanded to include
potential damage awards. Railroads may not take land or materials from land that is not in the layout of the project. Each locomotive had to carry
a bell that would be rung under defined circumstances. Railroads had to erect a board high over each crossing warning the public about the bell.
Selectmen could ask for a staffed crossing gate and there were directions about who paid for it. There were fines for non-compliance. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library)
