|
|
Senate No. 51 On March 13, 1835, the Committee on Mercantile Affairs and Insurance reported a bill: An Act to incorporate the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company, 1835. Five men were incorporated as above, together with the policyholders. The group had to amass $100,000 in cash to get started. The group could set up the company in the usual way. It could pay an annual dividend up to 7% and had to do a payout every five years. Each year, the company was to pay Massachusetts General Hospital one third of the year's profits.
