Senate. Comm. on Claims. Report on Revolutionary War bounties, 1835

Senate No. 33 On February 5, 1835, the Committee on Claims asked how much money and land would be required to fulfill the State's obligation to
Revolutionary War soldiers and if any soldier had received a bounty from his town of enlistment in the last three years. The Committee did its own
research and on February 25, 1835, issued a report. In 1776, there was a L20 bounty for a three-year enlistment provided by Congress and the State agreed
to pay 20 shillings/month for the three years. In May 1779, Congress offered $200 for a three year enlistment and the State agreed to pay $300 with
certain requirements. In June 1779, a three year enlistment came with L120 and 100 acres of land. Towns could enlist people and get $400. In October
1779, the bonus was for $300 for three years and tax abatement for that time. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the
