Senate No. 22 On February 12, 1835, the Committee on the Judiciary reported a bill: An Act in addition ... to establish the Court of Common Pleas,
1835. Once a case was decided in the Court of Common Pleas and the reasons were in the record, an aggrieved party could appeal to the Supreme
Judicial Court. If the grounds of the decision were not apparent, the aggrieved party could file exceptions with the Supreme Judicial Court. The Court
could hear the exceptions and affirm, reverse, order a new trial--whatever it deemed in the best interest of justice. (Digitized from a microfilm copy
