Senate No. 12 Report of the Viewing Committee on the Petition of Henry Gardner and others. The petitioners wanted a road, 2 bridges, and a ferry
from Warren to Fall River, plus two tidal mills. The Committee held three days of hearings in mid-October 1834 in Fall River. During the report,
references were made to several exhibits, none of which appear with the report. There would soon be a rail road not too far from the area, and there was a
steamboat to Providence, but it was iced in during the winter. The proposed route would cut two miles from the present trip and would open some
farmland to markets that were distant at that time. The physical route was better than the present road. There was already a ferry upriver, but after
discussion, it appeared each ferry would have enough business to survive. If the new ferry were steam powered, it could manage the ice. The towns
were worried that new bridges would obstruct the rivers, but a drawbridge would solve that. The Committee was in favor of the franchise, but the
enterprise would be expensive to build. A completion date should be built in to any legislation. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held
