House. Comm. on Roads and Bridges. Act to incorporate the proprietors of the Middlesex Bridge, 1834.
|
|
House No. 43 The Committee on Roads and Bridges reported a bill: An Act to incorporate the proprietors of the Middlesex Bridge, 1834. Seven men constituted a corporation called Proprietors of Middlesex Bridge, subject to the usual laws. The group was to build a bridge across the Mystic River to Charlestown with a lighted draw and wharves on each side. They were to pay for any land taken, with the usual procedure for protests. A toll was granted, with a long list of specific amounts. The corporation would report annually to the state. Investors were allowed 6% on their money. The state could eventually buy out the proprietors to make it a free bridge. The group had three years to build the span.
