House. Special Comm. on Registry of Deeds. Act providing for the registry of deeds in towns, 1834
House No. 19 On January 16, 1834, a committee of fourteen was directed to consider a Register of Deeds for each town. On January 24, 1834, the men
reported a bill: An Act providing for a Register of Deeds in towns, 1834. After May 1835, every town except in Suffolk, Dukes, and Nantucket
counties shall have a Register of Deeds, selected in the same manner as the Town Clerk, with a one year term and bond presented. County Registers of Deeds
were to be discontinued and their records turned over to the Town Clerk, except in Suffolk, Dukes, and Nantucket counties. The fees were listed and
directions for where to list properties not in town. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
Title:   Ordered, that a committee of one, from each county be appointed, to inquire into the expediency of constituting each town in this commonwealth a district for the registry of deeds.
