Senate. Act to abolish imprisonment for debt, 1834
SEE ALSO 52480, 52481 Senate No. 64 An Act to abolish imprisonment for debt, 1834. After July 4, no one would be imprisoned for debt unless he
were deemed a flight risk. The defendant had a length of time to tell the court he would take the poor debtor's oath. The oath would accepted unless the
plaintiff could prove the debtor had sufficient property to pay the debt. The bill was passed by the House on March 17, 1834 and returned for
