Senate No. 40 February 13, 1834 An Act concerning unlawful oaths, 1834. If a person administers an oath not required by law, both the giver and taker of the oath could be charged and fined. The person who took the illegal oath was a competent witness. Commercial and government oaths that were not secret were allowed.
