House. Comm. On Education. Report on Governor's message, 1833

House No. 58 On March 9, 1833, the Committee on Education considered the Governor's remarks on the Survey of the Commonwealth report. The message
and the report were directed to be printed. The Governor reported on March 8, 1833, that good weather had allowed more work days than allowed by the
appropriation. Money would also be needed to pay the person doing the latitude/longitude calculations. Report on the trigonometrical survey of the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts by James Stevens. [Pages 5-24] The base line had been finished. Triangulation of over 4,000 square miles had been
completed. During the winter, the crew created better measuring equipment and considered how to work without allowing the weather to affect the instruments.
Stevens talked about the coastal survey and then went through their work month by month. The five man crew worked long and hard. There followed a
two page report on the latitude/longitude part of the project. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State
