House No. 32 On January 9, 1833, two representatives asked if it were expedient to allow free admission to the state hospital for lunatics in
almshouses. On February 8, 1833, the committee reported that the hospital only had a capacity of 120 patients and there were far too many lunatics
scattered around the state to all be in the state hospital, so the request was denied. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the

Title:
Ordered, that Messrs. Thompson, of Charlestown, Foster, of Worcester, and Peck, of Sheffield, be a committee to consider the expediency of so far amending the act relative to the State Lunatic Hospital, passed March 24, 1832, as to provide for the free admission of such lunatic state paupers, as are now, or may be confined in the alms-houses in the several towns within this commonwealth.
