House No. 28 A Special Committee gathered data about imprisonment for debt from September 1831 to September 1832. 1346 people were jailed, of which
1061 cases were for less than $50. The average debt was $12.50, with court costs averaging $11. There were two large charts of information.

Title:   The special committee, to whom was referred "so much of the Governor's address as relates to assignments of property by debtors, and to imprisonment for debt," having procured returns from the gaolers of the respective counties, of the commitments from the 30th September 1831, to the 30th September 1832, have made a synopsis thereof, which is herewith respectfully submitted.
