House No. 24 On January 17 and 29, 1833, the Committee on the Judiciary was to consider employing more engine men and to exempt them from the poll
tax. On February 2, 1833, the Committee presented An Act to increase the number and provide for the appointment of engine men, 1833. Common engines
were to have 30 men and suction engines were to have 42 men. The mode of appointment, etc. would remain the same. If a man was certified to have
worked for one year, he could receive the equivalent of his poll tax for that year. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the
