House. Comm. on Agriculture. Report on silk culture, 1833
House No. 18 The Committee on Agriculture noted that Massachusetts was well adapted to silk culture. The work can be done cheaply by women,
children, and old people in their homes. The cocoons must be reeled into raw silk fiber to be saleable and this was difficult. An Act to encourage the
culture of silk, 1833. There would be bounties for planting and caring for the trees and a bounty of $1/pound of raw silk fiber put onto reels.
Justices of the Peace would examine the product and sign off on bounty claims. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the
Massachusetts State Library).
