Senate. Comm. on Fisheries. Act to preserve the eel fishery, 1833
|
|
Senate No. 50 Sadly, there was no report to explain the falling off of the fishery. On March 13, 1833, the Committee on Fisheries reported a bill: An Act to preserve the eel fishery at Muskeeket Island within the town of Nantucket, 1833. No more than three dozen eels were allowed to be taken at one time. Any boat exceeding the limit would be impounded for two days and there were fines. The town was to hire Fish Wardens to police this. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
