Joint Comm. on Railways and Canals. Act to incorporate the Andover and Wilmington Rail Road Corp., 1833
Senate No. 36 On March 1, 1833, the Committee of both Houses on Railways and Canals submitted a bill: An Act to establish the Andover and
Wilmington Rail Road Corporation, 1833. Twelve men and their associates were incorporated, with the usual responsibilities and privileges, to locate and
complete a rail road from Andover to the Boston & Lowell Rail Road in Wilmington. There were to be one thousand shares and the usual corporate structure.
Toll was granted, the company was to buy property as needed and pay any damages caused to other property. Penalties for trespass and vandalism were
noted and the company was reminded not to obstruct other rights-of-way. In twenty years, the state could buy the railroad which had to be completed
by January 1, 1836. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
