Senate No.35 On February 28, 1833, a Committee of both houses on Railways and Canals reported a bill: An Act to incorporate the Herring River
Company in the town of Harwich, 1833. Six men and their associates were planning to deepen the river channel and improve the alewife fishery. It could
build dams and locks, but had to pay for property used or damage caused. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts

Title:   The committee of both Houses on railways and canals, to whom was referred the petition of Job Chase, Jr., and others, inhabitants of Harwich and Dennis, for liberty to make improvements in Herring River, have considered the subject, and ask leave to report a bill.
