Senate No. 27 On February 19, 1833, the Joint Committee on Rail Roads and Canals reported a bill: An Act to establish the Western Rail Road
Corporation, 1833. Seven men requested corporation status for their venture. The group was to lay out and construct a rail road from the Boston and
Worcester Rail Road to the Connecticut River at Springfield and then toward the Hudson River. 10,000-20,000 shares were allowed, with the usual corporate
structure and responsibilities. The corporation could charge tolls and had to follow the long directions about paying for damages. The railroad had to

The Joint Committee on Railways and Canals, to whom was referred the petition of Nathan Hale and others, directors of the Boston and Worcester Rail Road Corporation, for a rail road from Worcester to the line of the state, have attended to the duty assigned them and ask leave to report a bill.
