House. Comm. on Article Concerning the Speaker of the House. Report, 1832

House No. 40 A Committee of the House examined a newspaper article about the conduct of the House Speaker. The Speaker was trying to bring a
number of bills to the floor for consideration, but a member, Mr. Child, asked that the body be adjourned because it had been an exhausting day and the
votes would not be thoughtfully made. His request was refused and there was an argument. Mr. Child subsequently wrote about it in a local newspaper,
hanging dirty laundry in public. The Committee took testimony from many people with widely differing views of the event, but it finally decided Mr.
Child should apologize. Whether that happened is not known. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State
