House. Comm. on Elections. Remonstrance of H. Orr and others, 1832
|
|
House No. 6 On January 19, 1832, the Committee on Elections heard the remonstrance of people from East Bridgewater in opposition to two men who were elected as Representatives. The regular voting meeting was called in November, but those present opted not to send any Representative that year. However, a second meeting was called two weeks later at which two men were selected to represent the town. The remonstrants said the second meeting was illegal because such were only supposed to be held if a candidate did not have a majority and in this case, no one was supposed to be elected. The Committee disagreed and seated the two Representatives. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
