Senate. House bill on an Act for regulation of licensed houses, 1832

SEE ALSO 52262 Senate No. 30 An Act for the due regulation of licensed houses and to repeal all former laws on the subject, 1832. This was a
comprehensive revision of the law. No innholder or victualer could sell alcohol for consumption on his/her premises unless licensed. A retailer of alcohol
of less than ten gallons had to be licensed and if he wanted to sell by the drink, had to have another license. City and town officers could license
as many establishments as they saw fit. Licenses renewed yearly, with the text for license included. Local officials had to keep good records of
licensees. The public could protest a license in writing. Innholders had to have food, lodging, and stabling and post a sign with their name on it.
No gaming was allowed and drunks were not to be served. A local jurisdiction could notify establishments not to serve a particular patron who was an
habitual drunk. Establishments had to close at 10pm on work nights and could not be open on Sunday. For disputes, a court of jurisdiction was
