SEE ALSO 51666, 51717, 52247 Senate No. 24 A Select Joint Committee of two senators and three representatives studied the petition of the residents
of Hopkinton who sought relief from a lawsuit from the Trustees of the Hopkins Donation. The Committee tendered a report on February 21, 1832. The
issue had been before the Legislature several times since 1823, all revolving around taxation. In 1830, a two man Commission issued a long detailed
report with three recommendations. The current Committee recommended paying a sum to the Hopkins Trustees to extinguish all future claims on the
Commonwealth and the tenants to avoid a long expensive legal battle. Resolved: The Commonwealth would pay the Hopkins Charity $10,000 in full settlement
of all claims against the Commonwealth and the tenants of Hopkinton and Upton. The Governor was authorized to draw a warrant for that purpose as soon
as the paperwork had been received from the Trustees agreeing to the terms, which had to be within six months. Pages 9-32 were reprints of all the
