Joint Comm. on Railways and Canals. Act in addition to act to establish the Boston and Lowell Rail Road, 1832
SEE ALSO 52168 Senate No. 19 The Joint Committee on Railways and Canals reviewed the Boston & Lowell Rail Road Corporation petition to amend their
charter and the remonstrance to the petition and submitted An Act in further addition to an act to establish the Boston & Lowell Rail Road
Corporation, 1832. After twenty years from the opening of the rail road, the Commonwealth could buy the enterprise for the cost of construction and other
expenses. The Corporation had permission to build a bridge over the Charles River between the Canal and Warren bridges, but only for the railroad. There
had to be an adequate draw that was free of toll and there were extensive instructions about how to manage water traffic from several directions.
Three Commissioners would examine and evaluate the plans and the finished product and make a report. The text of the remonstrance was not included, nor
was it specifically addressed. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
