House. Act to establish the Boston and Ontario Rail-Road Corporation, 1831
House No. 26 An Act to establish the Boston and Ontario Rail-Road Corporation, 1831. Thirty-five men were organized into the Boston and Ontario
Rail-Road corporation with the usual rights and responsibilities and by issuing four thousand shares. The group was to locate and construct a railroad
from Lowell to the north or west Commonwealth boundary and could go farther if it was able to get permission of the other state. The corporation could
charge a toll, with the usual caveat of the Legislature lowering tolls after ten years. The road was to be completed by 1836. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
